In 1971, this institute for higher learning was created as an edifice of education, and it stands still as a paragon of excellence among schools throughout the United States. Pearl City High School is a tradition, an oath to education. With the fortitude of Principal Lammy Ching, its doors opened in September of 1971 with only a Freshman Class and a faculty of less than 30 members. During its first year of operation, only the A and B buildings were in use. P.E. was taught in A-B courtyard and lunch was served from B204. Every class had a slop bucket into which food was disposed. In the following years, C, D, E, F, K, L, and M buildings were constructed. Pearl City is reputed for its high achievement in all fields: academia, extra-curricular, fine arts and athletics.
